Access to the Albright Institute’s Library,

to the Union Catalogue of Israel’s universities,

and to other academic libraries on the WEB

Dear Fellows,

·       The URL address for the Albright Library’s catalogue is http://www.aiar.org/library.html.

Please inquire for further instructions upon arrival at the Albright Institute.

Scroll down to the “Albright Library On-line Catalogue” link and click it to open the catalogue search screen.

Following are web-sites / home page addresses for several library catalogues in Israel. Hope you’ll find them useful.

·       Union catalogue (Malmad/ALEPH system) of the major academic institutions in Israel:

http://www.libnet.ac.il/

a.  Choose ULI for a monograph search, or ULS for a periodical search.

b.  ALEPH is an alphabetical retrieval system. Your search results will appear accordingly. To the left of each entry you will find numbers which indicate how many libraries have the item. Please note that because this is a UNION catalogue, you might receive the same item listed several times with minor spelling differences. Only when going through all varied entries can one be sure which libraries have the item.

c.  To access the list of libraries holding the book click on the number adjacent to the item. The full list of library codes is available from the ULS main page.

d.  The next screen should include the list of libraries holding the book. Some libraries are linked to the system in such a way that one can connect to their catalogue to view the full catalogued record. To view the full cataloged record in those libraries you should click the item number to the left of the title/author name.

e.  Once you receive the record of a specific library you can click on the link field “link to library: [name of library]”. Now you can view the holdings and fuller information about the book in that specific library. (Keep in mind that you are now in a specific library database and in order to return to the Union catalogue you should close that window).

f.   For a new session click Basic or Advanced Search in the tool bar above.

·       IAA library (Israel Antiquities Authority) or The Rockefeller Library.

http://www.antiquities.org.il/modules_eng.asp?Module_id=36

A search in the above-mentioned academic union catalogue may find items from the IAA library catalogue. However, if you wish to view a more detailed catalogued item you should open the IAA library page.

Also, and more importantly, the IAA library has an indexed catalogue of many of the individual articles from the journals they hold. These might be searched here – directly on the IAA home page.

Enter the IAA online catalogue: http://libantiquities.exlibris.co.il/F

·       We also have the Ecole Biblique library catalogue on CD ROM. (not very good – better to refer to the in-house library catalogue at the library of the Ecole Biblique).

·       There is also access to RAMBI online: The Index of Articles on Jewish Studies at The Jewish National and University Library, http://libnet.ac.il/~libnet/rmb.

For further help, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Wishing you many successful searches,
